Students of Medicine, an organization offering high school students guidance and training who wish to pursue a calling in medicine will be holding a free seminar on Saturday, February 28th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to parents of premed students at the Bronx High School for Medical Science. The seminar is hosted by Dr. Jimenez, the organization's founder who is an Ivy League medical school graduate, and author of the book, "Getting into today's highly competitive US medical schools".
The seminar will offer parents and children an overview of the educational requirements and steps needed to be taken to enter the field of medicine. This new seminar series is part of the organization's efforts to help improve this nation's health care and educational systems, and starting this Spring, will occur weekly online and available to parents of premed students around the country.
Dr. Andres Jimenez, Director of Students of Medicine said, "Only 17,000 students are admitted into medical school each year. Being born and raised in New York, I want to make sure we start by ensuring students here in the New York area have all the tools necessary to succeed and gain admission."
Students of Medicine is in its seventh year, and started the online premed program at the Bronx High School for Medical Science two years ago. The program includes a 12 week online premedical course, where students explore the wonders of medicine by partaking in a virtual emergency room, lectures by actual physicians, and with instructor guidance. Under Dr. Jiminez' leadership, about 30 students each year complete the program and are more likely to pursue a career in medicine. The program has been so successful, this year's students will also attain CPR certification through studentsofmedicine.com |
